TALLADEGA, ALA. — Jamie McMurray added his name to the victory list Sunday in a surprising finish to a typical race at Talladega Superspeedway.

McMurray, odd-man out in Jack Roush’s compliance move to fielding a maximum of four teams in 2010, crept home the winner in a green-white-checker finish that only made it three-quarters-of-a-lap before a wild crash brought out a caution flag making McMurray the winner.

NASCAR rules allow only one attempt at a green-white-checkered finish and McMurray was in the right position at the right time. [read more...]

By Bram • Apr 21st, 2009 • Category: NASCAR, News, Notes, Sprint Cup Series, Your Series. Your Driver.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (April 21, 2009) – At Talladega Superspeedway, anything – especially the unpredictable – can happen.
Much like this 2009 season. Some of the unforeseen happenings through eight races this season:
• David Reutimann is ninth in the series standings, posting one top five and two top 10s. Last year at this time, he was in 30th in the points, with a top finish of 18th.
• Tony Stewart is fourth in the points. While a two-time series champion ranking in the top five in points might not be that surprising, his performance as a first-time driver/owner is. His last three finishes are third, fourth and second. Stewart was seventh last year after eight races. [read more...]

AMP Energy 500

AMP Energy 500

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Sept. 29, 2008) – Talladega Superspeedway is dubbed the “wild card” in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup for a reason. Standings shuffling – and championship hopes shattering – races have been staged at Talladega:
2004: Jeff Gordon came into Talladega as the points leader. He finished 19th in the race, and was bounced from atop the standings by eventual series champion Kurt Busch. Gordon finished the year in third.
