TALLADEGA, ALA. — Jamie McMurray added his name to the victory list Sunday in a surprising finish to a typical race at Talladega Superspeedway.

McMurray, odd-man out in Jack Roush’s compliance move to fielding a maximum of four teams in 2010, crept home the winner in a green-white-checker finish that only made it three-quarters-of-a-lap before a wild crash brought out a caution flag making McMurray the winner.

NASCAR rules allow only one attempt at a green-white-checkered finish and McMurray was in the right position at the right time. [read more...]

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup cut-off bubble is as tight as ever. One single point is the difference between competing for a championship and missing out altogether.
Mark Martin is 13th, one point behind Denny Hamlin in 12th. Only once in the Chase era (2004-Present) have the standings been this close at this juncture. After 14 races in 2005, when the Chase was a 10-driver field, 11th-place Kurt Busch trailed 10th-place Tony Stewart by a point. [read more...]

Numbers Game: The Autism Speaks 400 Presented By Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips And Cheese At Dover International Speedway

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (May 26, 2009) – With expectations high coming into the season, merely putting three drivers in the top 12 through 12 races isn’t enough for Roush Fenway Racing.

After starting off the season with back-to-back wins by Matt Kenseth, Roush Fenway has gone winless over the last 10 races.

All that seems likely to change, as nearly the entire stable excels at Dover – a track at which Roush Fenway finished 1-2-3 the last time the series raced there. [read more...]

Matt Kenseth, driver of the No. 17 DeWalt Ford Fusion, held his weekly Q&A session in the Phoenix International Raceway infield media center to discuss this weekend’s race. Kenseth is ninth in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series point standings.

MATT KENSETH – No. 17 DeWalt Ford Fusion – HOW DO YOU LIKE RACING HERE? “I like coming here to Phoenix. This is probably, at least for me anyway, is probably the most fun flat track that we have. It’s real unique with a really long sweeping corner in three and four – kind of like Milwaukee – and then kind of a tight one and two and the dogleg in the backstretch is unusual. I think it’s the only track we have like that, so it’s a fun track, it’s challenging. I think you can pass on it a lot better than most flat tracks, especially down in one and two it seems like there’s always a lot of action and a lot of passing, so it’s one that I always look forward to.” [read more...]

FORT WORTH, TEXAS — Jeff Gordon can rest easy. He won again Sunday… the first time in 47 races.

The four-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion held off teammate Jimmie Johnson the last 26 laps to win the Samsung 500 at Texas Motor Speedway.

This one, the 87th win of Gordon’s fabled career, was a dandy. It came on a day when a bunch of hard-charging drivers had the lead at one time or another. [read more...]

LAS VEGAS (Feb. 20, 2009) — It looked more like a demolition derby at Islip (N.Y.) Speedway than a marquee race in NASCAR’s NASCAR Nationwide Series.

With cars slipping, sliding, spinning and crashing, Greg Biffle won the Sam’s Town 300 race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for one primary reason: His No. 16 Ford survived the trouble that quashed the winning hopes of most other top contenders — and survived his own misfortune.
