LONG POND, PA - Tony Stewart has accomplished what many deemed impossible for a first-year owner-driver. Winning the Sprint Cup All-Star race, leading the Sprint Cup points standings before the half-way point in the regular season, seeing his teammate car and driver in the top five standings, and now capturing a victory on one the tougher tracks and races on the circuit, the Pocono 500 at Pocono Raceway - doing it by fuel milage gamble. Something Stewart is not known for, saving gas and keeping out of the throttle.

“I didn’t think Tony could save that much fuel, but he did a really good job.” said runner-up Carl Edwards. [read more...]

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Sunday’s race at Dover International Speedway shined a spotlight on a growing rivalry. It’s old guard vs. new guard – perennial powerhouse Hendrick Motorsports vs. the new kids on the block, Stewart-Haas Racing.
Hendrick claimed the Dover battle with Jimmie Johnson’s win, but lost the points lead in the process.
Tony Stewart took over the lead, becoming the first driver-owner to hold the top spot since Alan Kulwicki did it to close out the 1992 season. Next up for Stewart: A victory. He has three runner-up finishes this season, suggesting a win will come sooner than later. [read more...]

Winners know it and know how to deal with the heat it brings.

Increasing intensity as the NASCAR Chase for the Sprint Cup looms ever closer is overwhelming, and can take even the most seasoned of championsip contenders to the brink of self-destruction.

Carl Edwards won the Sunoco Red Cross Pennsylvania 500, his 11th victory in 142 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races. He not only etched his name into the records books at Pocono Raceway again, he gained another all-important 10 bonus points that put him in second-place potential in the Chase berth.

But not without some heated and unsure moments.

LONG POND, Pa. (June 8, 2008) — Polesitter Kasey Kahne recovered from missing lug nuts that dropped him to the back of the field — and weathered myriad strategic ploys from his rivals — to win Sunday’s Pocono 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Pocono Raceway.

The victory was Kahne’s second of the season and the ninth of his career in 158 starts, but it wasn’t as easy as Kahne’s 3.702-second margin of victory over Brian Vickers might suggest.
