Schumacher, Wilkerson, Anderson and Ellis Win at Englishtown; Kalitta Honored

NHRA photoENGLISHTOWN, N.J. – Five-time POWERade Series world champion Tony Schumacher raced to his first win at Englishtown in 12 years of competition at the Lucas Oil NHRA SuperNationals.

The event was overshadowed by the loss of Funny Car driver Scott Kalitta, who died from multiple injuries suffered after his car went out of control in the fourth round of qualifying Saturday.

Jim Head Takes No.1 Provisional at Englishtown NHRA Friday Quals

NHRA photoENGLISHTOWN, N.J. – After nearly 15 years since his last No. 1 qualifier, Funny Car driver Jim Head raced to the provisional top spot Friday at the place he last collected his No. 1 qualifier, the Lucas Oil NHRA SuperNationals.

Larry Dixon, Greg Anderson and Chris Rivas were also No. 1 qualifiers in their respective categories at the 11th of 24 events on the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series.

NHRA Driver Focus — E-town on Gary Scelzi’s hit list

(June 18, 2008) - Four-time NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series champion Gary Scelzi has a hit list of NHRA tracks at which he’s never won since he began his professional drag-racing career in 1997. Before the NHRA added the Norwalk, Ohio, and the upcoming inaugural Charlotte, N.C., events, Scelzi only had two tracks to conquer: Gainesville Raceway in Florida, and Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown, N.J. This season he has four to hopefully add to his collection of 37 career victories in 58 final rounds.

Dixon Hopes Spell Over Old Bridge Township Stays Strong as NHRA POWERade Series Arrives in New Jersey

NHRA photoENGLISHTOWN, N.J. – When Larry Dixon was 12 years old, he told race officials he was 14 just so he could get into the pits at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park.

It was against the rules for anyone younger than 14 to enter that area, he said. By that time, Dixon had already known for eight years he wanted to be a professional NHRA driver. Eight years of daydreaming about the car he’d have; eight years of sneaking off to read auto magazines while his mom shopped for groceries. Eight years of wanting to be his father. It didn’t seem like the time for patience.
