In a wild and wooly finish so typical of races at Daytona International Speedway, Kyle Busch won by a whisker over hard-charging Carl Edwards with a chain-reaction accident behind them sending up a cloud of smoke that covered the track.

CIA Stock photoPersistent, heavy thunderstorms washed out qualifying at Michigan International Speedway for the running of Sunday’s LifeLock 400.

The rain began falling after 11 of 45 drivers had completed qualifying attempts on the 2-mile oval and NASCAR was forced to fill the race field by points, giving series leader Busch his third pole start of the season. He will be joined on the front row by Jeff Burton, with Dale Earnhardt Jr. and defending race winner Carl Edwards in Row 2.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Kyle Busch of 2008 is the Jeff Gordon of 2007, at least in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.
Their numbers are very similar:
Wins: After 13 races last season, Gordon won three races. Busch has won four this year.
Points Lead: Last season, Gordon was 152 points ahead of second-place Jimmie Johnson after 13 races. Right now, Kyle Busch is 142 points ahead of second-place Jeff Burton.

Points leader Kyle Busch made mincemeat of the competition and Sunday’s Best Buy 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Dover International Speedway.

In a race that stayed green for the final 153 laps, Busch gained a total of five seconds over runner-up Carl Edwards on his final two pit stops, built a lead that topped eight seconds and cruised in his No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota to a 4.225-second win, his fourth of the season and the eighth of his career.
