CIA Stock photoBROOKLYN, Mich. — Much to the delight of a screaming partisan crowd, Dale Earnhardt Jr. coasted across the finish line after a nerve-wracking restart to win the LifeLock 400 at Michigan International Speedway. It was the highly-popular Earnhardt’s first NASCAR Sprint Cup points victory in 76 races.

And this one had everyone biting their nails and cracking their knuckles in suspense because Junior ran low on fuel.

CONCORD, N.C. — Joe Gibbs Racing’s hold on the Nationwide Series finally has been snapped — by one of its drivers.

Driving the No. 32 Braun Racing Toyota, Busch ended the four-race winning streak of the No. 20 Toyota that belongs to his full-time owner, Joe Gibbs. Hamlin, who took a turn in the No. 20 on Saturday, finished second, followed by Brad Keselowski, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and polesitter Brian Vickers.

Busch won the CARQUEST Auto Parts 300 Saturday night at Lowe’s Motor Speedway under caution when Mike Wallace’s wreck slowed the race after Busch had taken the white flag for a green-white-checkered-flag finish that took the event two laps beyond its posted distance of 200.

Opinion: The Job Gets Easier and Easier.. (As Long As You Aren’t Kyle Busch)

By Bram • May 4th, 2008 • Category: From The Backstretch, NASCAR, Racer

“…they were just racing so hard there and you knew it was going to happen. I just took advantage of a misfortune right there.” — Clint Bowyer

“…he is going to need some security.” — Dale Earnhardt Jr. on the Jr.Nation’s feelings toward Kyle Busch

It just writes itself, this racing biz. Last night being the prime example. It was Richmond, the little track that provides — for it’s fans, for the drivers, for the teams — it provides good racing and it provides the “more than occasional” controversy.

Nobody is guaranteed anything — not even Dale Jr.

RICHMOND, Va. – Bizarre might be a good description of the Dan Lowry 400 Saturday night at Richmond International Raceway.

This one had a little bit of everything.

Denny Hamlin led a race-record number of laps, 381 to be exact.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kyle Busch provided a few laps of great racing for the lead, a battle that ended with Earnhardt spinning out on Lap 398.

Ragan Looks for Strong Return to RIR

David Ragan, driver of the No. 6 AAA Ford Fusion, is looking forward to racing at Richmond this Saturday night following his season-best fourth place at Talladega last Sunday. Ragan, who grew up short-track racing in Georgia, says Richmond, which is a three-quarter-mile track, is like a bigger, faster short track.

DAVID RAGAN – No. 6 AAA Ford Fusion – “Richmond is an awesome race track. I love racing on Saturday night, racing underneath the lights. That’s always been one of my favorite race tracks growing up watching, because you could pass on the outside, you could run the bottom, 400 laps. It’s a good length, it’s not long race where you have to get out there and ride for a certain amount of time. You can race the whole race. Richmond is an awesome place to race. Plus, it’s close to home so you can be home just a couple of hours after the race, so just about everything about it is good.”
