JGR Cars Discovered to be Not In Rules Compliance after Michigan NNS Race

The cars involved were the No. 18 Toyota that was driven to a seventh-place finish by Joey Logano, and the No. 20 Toyota that was driven to a third-place finish by Tony Stewart.
“In our post-race inspection, our inspectors discovered some shims that were placed on the gas-pedal stop. They were magnets that were about a quarter-inch thick that prevented the accelerator from going 100 percent wide open,” Pemberton said“The intention was to manipulate the numbers that we get when we get our information and data off the dyno.
Statement from Joe Gibbs Regarding Alleged Infractions by Joe Gibbs Racing During Post-Nationwide Series Race Technical Inspection at Michigan
BROOKLYN, Mich. (Aug. 17, 2008) – The following is a statement from Joe Gibbs, owner of Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR), regarding the alleged infractions that took place by JGR during technical inspection following Saturday’s NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Michigan International Speedway.
“If this alleged incident proves true, it goes against everything we stand for as an organization.
“We will take full responsibility and accept any penalties NASCAR levies against us. We will also investigate internally how this incident took place and who was involved and make whatever decisions are necessary to ensure that this kind of situation never happens again.
“The expectations we set for everyone at Joe Gibbs Racing begins with me, and I personally apologize to NASCAR, our partners and our fans for the negative light this situation has cast upon all of us.”
