HOMESTEAD, Fla. (November 15, 2008) — Carl Edwards won the battle, but Clint Bowyer won the war.

Edwards took the checkered flag in the Ford 300 NASCAR Nationwide Series season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway, depriving runner-up Kyle Busch of a record 11th victory in a single season.

But Edwards couldn’t put enough distance between his No. 60 Ford and the No. 2 Chevrolet of Clint Bowyer, who claimed his first NASCAR Nationwide championship with a fifth-place finish. Bowyer entered the race with a 56-point lead over Edwards and won the title by 21 points.

Kyle Busch’s staggering numbers just got better.

With a dominating performance in Friday night’s rain-interrupted Dollar General 300 NASCAR Nationwide Series race—the type of run that’s become commonplace—Busch drove his No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota to victory by .662 seconds over Jeff Burton.

Busch, who led 137 of 200 laps, pulled away after a restart with three laps left. The victory was his ninth in the series this year, the 20th of his career, and his 20th in NASCAR’s top three series combined this year.

DOVER, Del. (September 20, 2008) — With a committee of crew chiefs — and in the face of some wishful thinking on the part of Mike Bliss — Kyle Busch won Saturday’s Camping World RV Sales 200 Nationwide Series race at Dover International Speedway in dominating fashion.

Busch led 157 of 207 laps in a race that ended with a green-white-checkered-flag finish after Landon Cassill and Steven Wallace collided on Lap 199 to bring out the seventh and final caution and send the event seven laps beyond its scheduled distance.

FONTANA, CALIF. (August 30, 2008) — Give Kyle Busch credit for being a quick study.

Nudged out of the way and deprived of a win by Carl Edwards in last Saturday’s Sprint Cup race at Bristol, Busch didn’t let Edwards anywhere near his rear bumper in the closing laps of Saturday night’s Camping World RV Service 300 NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Auto Club Speedway.

After a restart with eight laps remaining, Busch pulled away, as he had done consistently all night long, to hold off his nemesis and win the race under caution when Josh Wise wrecked on the white-flag lap.
