Ryan Newman won the Coors Light Pole Award for the TUMS Fast Relief 500 (61st Running) with a lap of 19.563 seconds, 96.795 mph.

This is his 45th pole in 292 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races. It also ties him with Buck Baker for 11th on NASCAR’s all-time pole winners list.

This is his second pole and 16th top-10 start in 2009.

“I think I got everything out of it I could have.” said Newman of his fast lap. “I tried to get more on the second lap, but it costs me. But it was a great lap for the U.S. Army Chevrolet. Tony Gibson and the guys did a great job and the Hendrick horsepower, so we’ll just see where we end up. But I’m pretty confident that I got all I could get out of it.”

Jeff Gordon (second) posted his 22nd top-10 start of 2009 and his 25th in 34 races at Martinsville Speedway.
