Center Line, Mich. — For the seventh straight year, Mopar® will turn up the heat at the 22nd Annual Dodge Chili Bowl Nationals by offering its $10,000 bonus check for any Mopar-powered midget car driver who takes home a win in the prestigious event. More than 35 Mopar-powered entries (among a current field of 277 midget cars) will compete for the Mopar $10,000 bonus at the Chili Bowl Nationals’ 50-lap main event on Jan. 12, 2008 at the Tulsa Expo Raceway in Oklahoma. Combined with the $10,000 winner’s check, the Mopar bonus offers drivers with a Mopar power plant the opportunity to double their purse with a victory.

Both Tony Stewart and Tracy Hines banked the Mopar $10,000 bonus with their victories at the Chili Bowl Nationals in 2002 and 2005, respectively.

“Our Mopar bonus has become a tradition at the Chili Bowl Nationals,” said Rob Richard, Director of Global Mopar Parts, Sales and Service Marketing, Chrysler LLC. “Only Mopar offers this type of bonus purse at the event. With more than 35 Mopar-powered midget entries, Team Mopar will be a threat to claim the ‘Golden Driller’ trophy once again. Drivers running our Mopar power plant have a chance for a very handsome payday if they can bring home the event win.”

Kasey Kahne, Gary Scelzi and Jerry Coons Jr. are part of the Team Mopar contingent vying for the Mopar $10,000 bonus A number of high-profile drivers are among the more than 35 Mopar-powered entries ready to battle it out for the Mopar $10,000 bonus.

NASCAR Nextel Cup standout Kasey Kahne begins his second year as owner of Mopar’s factory-backed team in World of Outlaws (WoO) Sprint and USAC Sprint and Midget competition, Kasey Kahne Racing (KKR). In addition to his own ride, Kahne will also field midget cars piloted by his rising young USAC hotshoes, Brady Bacon and Brad Sweet. Rounding out the KKR “Four Horseman” at the Chili Bowl is WoO veteran Joey Saldana, fresh off a career-best season that included 13 wins and a runner-up WoO Series finish.

Four-time NHRA POWERade champion Gary Scelzi drives the Mopar/Oakley Dodge Charger R/T Funny Car for Don Schumacher Racing, and was one of only four Funny Car drivers to qualify for the 2007 NHRA POWERade Countdown to 1 two-race title shootout. Scelzi will have the rare chance to pursue his other passion – circle track racing. Owner of the Gary Scelzi Motorsports Mopar/K&N Filters/Oakley midget piloted regularly by his 17-year-old phenomenon driver, Michael Faccinto, Scelzi will seize the chance provided by the NHRA off-season to take the wheel of his midget car at the Chili Bowl Nationals.

After scoring his second straight USAC Midget championship under the Team Mopar banner in 2007, Wilke-PAK Racing’s Jerry Coons Jr. will seek to kick off the 2008 season in grand style by capturing the $10,000 Mopar bonus and his first-ever Chili Bowl Nationals championship. Coons’ stellar 2007 season was recognized by the American Auto Racing Writers and Broadcasters Association with first team honors in the “Short Track” category.

Several other Mopar-powered drivers scheduled to compete at the Chili Bowl Nationals include 2007 Badger Midget Auto Racing Association (BMARA) champion Brad Kuhn, young NASCAR-bound and former KKR driver Kevin Swindell, and two additional future stars, 16-year-old Dakoda Armstrong and 17-year old Darrin Bolton.

70 Years of MoparWhen Chrysler bought Dodge in 1928, the need for a dedicated parts manufacturer, supplier and distribution system to support the growing enterprise led to the formation of the Chrysler Motor Parts Corporation (CMPC) in 1929.

Originally used in the 1920s, Mopar (a simple contraction of the words MOtor and PARts) was trademarked for a line of antifreeze products in 1937. It was also widely used as a moniker for the CMPC. The Mopar brand made its mark in the 1960s – the muscle car era. The Chrysler Corporation built race-ready Dodge and Plymouth “package cars” equipped with special high-performance parts. Mopar carried a line of “Special Parts” for super stock drag racers and developed its racing parts division called Mopar Performance Parts to enhance speed and handling for both road and racing use.

Today, Chrysler LLC’s Global Service & Parts division is responsible for the manufacturing and distribution of nearly 250,000 authentic Mopar replacement parts, components and accessories for Chrysler, Jeep® and Dodge vehicles sold around the world. To assure quality, reliability and durability, all Mopar parts and accessories are designed in strict adherence to Chrysler engineering standards.

Roush Fenway’s Ricky Stenhouse Jr. to Run 22nd Annual Chili Bowl

By Bram • Jan 4th, 2008 • Category: Midgets

Concord, N.C. (January 4, 2008) - Before hitting the pavement at Daytona International Speedway in February, Roush Fenway Racing's newest development driver, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., will make his fourth start next week in the 22nd annual Chili Bowl held in Tulsa, Okla.  Stenhouse will race for Keith Kunz Motorsports in the Esslinger-powered No. 97 car as he looks to better his 2007 performance, a 13th place finish in the A main.

"We ran decent there last year," said Stenhouse from his home in Olive Branch, Miss.  "Keith Kunz has given me a fast racecar this year with lots of horsepower under the hood so I'm excited.  To run this race is really special.  I think it truly is the 'Superbowl' of racing.  It's the one place that drivers from all Sprint and Midget Series along with drivers from NASCAR and sometimes drag racing come together for some good old fashioned dirt racing."

This year's entries currently top 270 for the five-day event that starts on January 8 and concludes Saturday, January 12 at the Tulsa Expo Center.  Some of the top names Stenhouse will be competing against include four-time Chili Bowl winner Sammy Swindell and NASCAR stars Kasey Kahne, J.J. Yeley and Stenhouse's former car owner, Tony Stewart.

"The best drivers are there."  Stenhouse continued, "A lot of great drivers have won the Chili Bowl and to be included in that select group would be cool.  I'm really looking forward to racing against my former boss, Tony (Stewart), along with all the other champions, race winners and top-drivers.  When you have that many top drivers competing for just 24 spots, fans are going to see some of the best racing around."

Crowds are expected to top 10,000 to watch Stenhouse battle some of the greatest names in racing on the famous .25-mile indoor dirt track.  Stenhouse will race in Wednesday night's qualifier race on the road to racing the 50-lap A main Saturday night.  Saturday's finale will air live on HBO Pay-Per-View for details, visit www.chilibowl.com

As for the 2008 ARCA RE/MAX season, Stenhouse has been working hard over the winter to prepare for his first full-season with Roush Fenway.  With several successful tests under his belt, Stenhouse has been cleared to race Daytona in February which is a big relief for the 20-year old.

"We had a good test at Daytona last month," said Stenhouse.  "I feel like our team is starting to gel and I'm getting more and more comfortable in the car with each lap.  The test sessions have been good but I'm definitely ready to race.  We're still looking for a sponsor but I'm confident that if we stick to our game plan of completing all our laps, and try to be competitive each week, something will come through.  I'm looking forward to 2008."

Toyota To Feature Five-Entry Star Studded Line Up at 22nd Chili Bowl

By Bram • Jan 3rd, 2008 • Category: Midgets

TORRANCE, Calif. (Jan. 3, 2008) – A star-studded line-up featuring champions from the Midget, Sprint Car and World of Outlaw ranks will highlight Toyota’s five-entry contingent for the upcoming 2008 Chili Bowl at the Tulsa Expo Raceway, Jan. 8-12.

“We’re thrilled to have such a strong line-up ready to go in what some consider the Super Bowl of midget car racing,” said Gary Reed, Toyota Racing Development vice president of special racing projects.  “After closing out the 2007 season with wins at the Copper World Classic and at Turkey Night Grand Prix, winning the Chili Bowl would be a terrific way to begin 2008.”

Leading the way will be Cruz Pedregon Racing’s three-car entry featuring three-time World of Outlaw champion and four-time Chili Bowl winner Sammy Swindell, former USAC National Sprint and Midget Series champion Josh Wise, and NHRA champion and team owner Cruz Pedregon.  Wise won two races for the team last year in a partial season, while also serving as a development driver for one of Toyota’s NASCAR teams, Michael Waltrip Racing, LLC.

Another NASCAR star also will be behind the wheel of a Toyota-powered Midget race car at the Chili Bowl as Jason Leffler will campaign an entry for Keith Kunz Motorsports, the two-time Toyota Challenge champions.  Leffler, a three-time USAC Midget Series champion, made history last July when he became the first Toyota driver to score a Camry win in the NASCAR Busch Series (now Nationwide Series) event at O’Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis.

With previous victories at the Belleville Nationals and Hut 100 (both in 1997), the Copper World Classic (1999), the Toyota Night Before the 500 (2002) and two Turkey Night Grand Prix events (1999 and 2005), a Chili Bowl victory would be the culmination to Leffler’s spectacular midget racing career.  This will be Leffler’s 11th Chili Bowl run with a previous best of second in 1998.

Steve Lewis’ Nine Racing team has been an integral part of Toyota’s Midget Racing program since its inception.  Nine Racing won the manufacturer’s debut USAC event in the 2006 Copper World Classic with driver Dave Steele.  The team closed out the 2007 season with victories in two of the sport’s most prestigious events; the Copper World Classic and the Turkey Night Grand Prix.  Dave Darland, who won this last year’s Turkey Night Grand Prix, will be behind the wheel of the Nine Racing Toyota-powered entry for the 22nd running of the Chili Bowl Nationals.

More than 250 entries are expected to compete over the four day event to earn one of the 24 spots in the “A Main” feature event on Saturday, Jan. 12.  Last year’s event was won by Toyota NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Tony Stewart.

This year’s Chili Bowl will broadcast live on HBO Pay-Per-View on Saturday, January 12 beginning at 8:00 p.m. ET (5:00 p.m. PT), with an immediate pay-per-view replay and additional replays on Sunday. The HBO Pay-Per-View racing telecast has a suggested retail price $24.95 and will be available to more than 61 million pay-per-view homes in the United States and Canada and millions more worldwide. Ordering information is available at www.hbo.com.  Viewers are encouraged to contact their local cable operator or satellite provider to order theLucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals. Customers must have digital cable or satellite service to order.  A subscription to HBO is not required.
