Birmingham, AL (Feb. 24, 2010)- Sarah Fisher, of IndyCar Series team, Sarah Fisher Racing (SFR) spent the day in Birmingham; testing her Honda powered Dallara, while participating in the IZOD IndyCar ® Series first open test of the 2010 season.

Although this was Fisher’s first career appearance at Barber Motorsports Park, this week’s IndyCar Series open test marks Fisher’s second time on track this year, as SFR participated in a private test at Sebring International Raceway just a few weeks ago.

The four-time voted Most Popular Driver was one of 18 drivers on the 17-turn, 2.38 mile permanent road course located on the eastern fringes of Birmingham. Fisher turned 63 laps during today’s test, posting her fastest time at 01:16.01 on her final lap of the day.

“Today was not necessarily my most fantastic day, but we did learn a lot,” said Fisher, author of 99 Things Women Wish They Knew Before Getting Behind the Wheel of Their Dream Job, which is due out in May. “The fastest lap we ran was the last one, which just shows there’s a lot more to learn tomorrow. We fought the weather all day. Temperatures weren’t on our side for grip right off the bat, but all in all I’m more comfortable in the car, which will allow me to learn these techniques quicker. With my smaller window of road course experience, there’s a lot to be learned in a short amount of time. The plan tomorrow is for Jay to be in the car in the morning, so I can learn from him with his time on track, leading up to me in the car again in the afternoon.”

Team Penske’s Ryan Briscoe was fastest on the circuit today with a time of 1:10.5052, followed closely by teammates, Helio Castroneves and Will Power.

Fisher will wrap the two-day IndyCar Series open test Thursday, joined by SFR teammate Jay Howard, before returning to Barber Motorsports Park to race in the third event of the 2010 IndyCar Series schedule on April 11. The Indy Grand Prix of Alabama will be carried live on the VERSUS network at 3:00 p.m. EST. Additional coverage will be available on the IMS Radio Network and XM Satellite Radio’s “IndyCar Racing,” with broadcast coverage summaries available at www.indycar.com and www.sarahfisher.com.
