Luhr crossed the finish line 21.392 seconds ahead of teammate Emanuele Pirro as Gil de Ferran ran out of fuel on the last lap while leading in LMP2. VOICES OF MOSPORT INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY

Prototype pilots Lucas Luhr and Chris McMurry are looking forward to the speed and exhilaration of racing at Mosport.
The only thing American Le Mans Series drivers love more than a fast circuit are two consecutive ones. That’s what the field is in for this weekend in Mobil 1 presents the Grand Prix of Mosport at historic Mosport International Raceway. The 2.459-mile, 10-turn circuit rivals Road America - the previous Series stop - as the fastest on the schedule, and the enthusiasm of the Mosport fans makes the Series’ only annual Canadian stop one of the highlights of the season.

When the privateer team led by Joel Feinberg arrived at Road America on Thursday they were welcomed by a new surprise by their tire partner, “Hankook Tire USA”.

A new wider front tire that the team had been looking forward to was delivered and ready for testing. Immediately following the first practice that day, drivers Feinberg and Hall were ecstatic with the gains from the 12inch front tire. The team had been struggling with the heavy load from their front engine V10 Viper on the front tires which caused an unruly amount of understeer. Once the new tire was brought into the cars setup it allowed the team to soften the suspension and work on keeping the car compliant through the corners.

Will the fourth time be the charm for Lucas Luhr? Audi’s German factory driver certainly hopes so. Luhr earned his fourth career pole position at Road America on Friday and was the fastest overall qualifier for the Generac 500 presented by Time Warner Cable. His lap of 1:46.935 (136.277 mph) gave him a 0.41-second margin over Andretti Green Racing’s Franck Montagny.

Luhr will drive in Saturday’s four-hour race with Marco Werner with the duo having won three overall races and the last five LMP1 rounds. They comfortably lead the class championship by 58 points over Audi teammate Emanuele Pirro. Luhr hasn’t won from pole position at Road America after three previous fast qualifiers.

The joke going around at Bell Motorsports has the team wanting to paint a target on its Aston Martin DBR9 so they can pick where the car will be hit next. Sometimes that’s the best thing to do when adversity is staring at you in the face…just laugh it off.

So it’s with a sense of humor - and a greater sense of urgency - that repairs have been made to Bell’s GT1 challenger in time for this week’s Generac 500 presented by Time Warner Cable at Road America. There admittedly were late nights Thursday through Saturday to get the car ready to load onto the Bell transporter Sunday night in Miami.
